Largo Cavalieri di Malta 90133 Palermo - Sicily

Among Palermo’s wonders – al-Qasr castle, the Norman Palace, the Chinese building and the Byzantine mosaics – you will find La Bella Palermo located within the historic Palazzo Pantelleria.  Dating from the late 1300’s, it was originally a fortified outpost close to the harbour and overlooking the sea.  The fort was purchased by the Requesens family in the 16th Century who transformed it into a noble palace.  In the 18th century, Giovanni Del Frago, a leading architect in the Rococo style of Palermo, redesigned its façade facing Valverde square (now Largo Cavalieri di Malta).  In the following centuries the palazzo suffered neglect and its glamour gradually faded until the end of the 20th century.  At the beginning of the new millennium, the main floor – Piano Nobile – was acquired by the current owner who restored it and created his own personal “buen retiro” as well as the perfect place to display his collections of furniture and fine art.  Now open to a discerning audience of international travelers eager to dive into an environment rich in history, authenticity, and art, La Bella Palermo once again shines as a testament to the unique architectural identity of Sicily.
